Troina joins 1 euro house Italy initiative

The Sicilian town Troina is one of the latest towns to join the 1 euro house initiative in Italy

Troina a small town in Sicily has been fighting depopulation and has decided to join the 1 euro house initiative Italy with the aim to revive it’s old town centre. Troina is located in a mountainous area of the province of Enna. Located near to the Nebrodi National Park mountains and the great mother volcano, Mount Etna and the Etna National Park. In fact, due to Troina’s high vantage point, great views of Mt. Etna can be seen from the town.

There have been various articles written about the 1 euro house initiative in Italy and the various towns that have participated. However, I found few of them to include the thoughts and feelings about the initiative from the existing resident population. Therefore, I decided to get in touch with some Troinese. First of all, I asked:

“What do you think about the 1 euro house initiative for Troina?”

These are the responses I received:

Fabiola 29 years old: “I think it’s an excellent initiative to re-evaluate and repopulate the historic centre!”

Francesca 34 years old: “A beautiful initiative, a resource for the development of the country by repopulating the uninhabited neighbourhoods and, at the same time, giving the economy a chance to refresh”

Paola 40 years old: “The one-euro houses represent a concrete initiative for the revaluation of the historic centre, repopulation, and tourism relaunch”

Mary: “Nice initiative”

Secondly, I decided to delve a bit deeper and ask people from Troina to be volunteers for a small focus group. Asking each of them the same 6 questions. My aim, as it often is with this blog, was to provide information about things happening in Sicily from those who know about it best – the Sicilians. Thus in this case, to provide people with information about Troina from those who know it best, the Troinese.
